Mirena and the never-catastrophe period. Is this normal?

Hullo,

I had the Mirena iud/ius placed Aug 18th. I bled for a few days afterward and so stopped. However, I have started bleeding once more and have been haemorrhage (non spotting lightly) not-stop for 11 days now with no signs of it quitting. Is this normal?? Oh and I have not attempted intercourse since insertion (nor using tampons). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A ggod friend of mine had her mirena removed becuase she had such horrible pains and no sex bulldoze, her bleeding didn't let up until she had information technology removed. I think information technology's a draw back of the product. To me it's not worth it.

Re: Mirena and the never-catastrophe catamenia. Is this normal?

I should add that I went to an ER a couple nights ago and talked to an advice nurse on the phone also and they are telling me unless I start running a fever or start to feel faint, that everything seems pretty normal. I ran blood counts 2 nights ago to be sure I am not becoming anemic and everything came back normal, simply it seems strange to me to just continue bleeding....

I concur, how can information technology be normal that a person continues to drain, i mean how much can a person stand. I never tried the product just have heard bad things about it. It'due south a judgment call. I still dont similar information technology. Like having a flow for 7 days isnt bad enough but continously, doesn't sound right to me.

I just got mirena two days ago. They told me to expect irregular bleeding for at least 3-6 months until my trunk adjusts to it. I haven't had much bleeding at all really nor did I accept much pain. But final night and this morning I'm starting to feel a little more hurting. Non and so much cramps but more like just a weird kind of pain that isn't unbearable, just feels weird.

In that location will be people who will tell you to take information technology out but I think you should wait and see how it goes. A lot of women who initially have bug notice that when they stick it out for a while, it starts working for them and they are very happy with it. It'south certainly not for anybody, only for some of us who have tried everything else, this is our terminal chance for something to piece of work. So I circumspection you confronting the knee joint jerk reaction of removing it before giving it a fair take a chance.

Go along in heed that you will observe more negative stuff about anything on message boards like these because its always those with problems who post on here whereas people with positive experiences are less probable to seek out message boards to post most their positive experience. So, take what you read with a grain of table salt knowing in that location are many other women out in that location with an IUD that are happy with it.

Aye, information technology is pretty annoying to just continue to bleed and bleed. I don't know when it's ever going to cease, but I am thankful that I'm not having much if any pain along with it. Still, though, I am getting ready to go on vacation and I had hopes of being able to swim and whatnot without these problems. I haven't even been intimate with my man in a month!! Information technology'due south really annoying.

On the other hand, I practise agree that you volition find more than information about those with negative experiences than positive. I volition say Mirena placement was the worst pain!! I have had biopies and I don't think anything hurt as bad as that did. I'm simply not sure how I feel about Mirena myself at this point. A role of me wants it out but this is the best choice for birth control that I have besides, so the other part of me wants to wait it out, merely I just don't know how long is besides long to go through this?

Well like i said before information technology's a sentence phone call. I went with pills and never had whatever problems with them. But do you really want to watch it for months if it is that long?

Very true. For certain reasons, I cannot take the pill and my s/o doesn't similar condoms (neither do I). I am definitely in no hurry to accept children anytime presently, so the positive aspects of Mirena really appealed to me. However,I will take to effigy out how long I can stand the other outcome I am experiencing with information technology. I am really hoping this is just temporary and that things will soon settle and even out to a point where I can worry less.

How heavy is your bleeding at present? Has it gotten any less or is information technology still as much every bit when you lot starting time posted? I take only had spotting, like a panty liner's worth each day.

Have you called the doc who inserted it for you lot? What did they say? In my case I'thou surprised that I don't have more than haemorrhage because I really was expecting to have the same experience every bit you. Fifty-fifty the nurse at the doc'south office told me that when she outset got hers, she had some steady bleeding for nearly 3-iv weeks and then information technology calmed down.

I know it's frustrating and it's ultimately your determination on what to do. Only for me, I've committed to taking as much time as they stated (3-6 months) to run into if it will help with my periods. I literally have no other options earlier going to the endometrial ablation and ultimately hysterectomy for my problems so I'm willing to wait equally long as I need to to make sure. Then far I'yard pretty satisfied, and then I'm going to hope for the best that it's going to do what they said it's supposed to do for me.

I wish I had your luck!! The bleeding has remained at a pretty abiding/steady level. I thought information technology was letting up a bit this morning, simply in one case my day got started, a few hours later I was back to where I was over the past 13 days. It's somewhat disheartening likewise as VERY frustrating!! It is, still, reassuring that someone you know bled for virtually 3-4 weeks, and so information technology's skillful to know I am not lonely. I'd like to say I will give it three months to exist sure, just what if I bleed for 3 months directly? I never know when or if this is going to cease and I'm going on vacation adjacent week, so I'yard really disappointed right now in this thing.

Re: Mirena and the never-ending period. Is this normal?

Another question/update for those of you who have used Mirena. First of all, I spoke with a GYN (non the one who inserted it) who said it takes near 6 weeks for the Mirena hormones to accomplish a certain level earlier it is really working properly in full action. If the bleeding is heavy (which it hasn't been actually heavy per say just has been a little clotty and red), then it may exist trying to dispel and for some a doc may need to prescribe Provera. I am hoping not to continue yet some other hormone!! I have been bleeding for 18 days now and have not yet heard back from my personal Gyn who was supposed to contact me last calendar week, then I have a question for everyone who has experienced or know someone who has experienced prolonged bleeding with the Mirena. This may audio gross, merely yesterday the bleeding was very light and I was thinking and hoping today it would exist over!! Alas, I was mistaken. This morning barely anything was happening, only I had a bowel motion (not very difficult either) and the action of that acquired the haemorrhage to outset right back up and brilliant cherry-red!! So frustrating! I will be leaving for holiday in merely a few brusk days too. So, has anyone else experienced the same? Feedback appreciated!!

Re: Mirena and the never-catastrophe menstruation. Is this normal?

Hey! You're definitely not lone on this LOL.

I had mine inserted in May during my period. Once it was inserted my period stopped. A calendar week later it came back again and lasted two weeks. For the next ii months I had full blown periods that lasted about two or three weeks (I felt like I was always on my period during this time), and at present, thankfully, it's become so calorie-free I barely have to wear anything to prevent stains, although the length hasn't inverse.

It'southward very frustrating and inconvenient to have long periods, but I'd say give information technology a chance if this is the merely issue y'all are having. I recall getting frustrated and threatening to go it removed, and now I barely bleed. Unless information technology's causing other (serious) issues or information technology persists for longer than six months, I'd stick it out.

Re: Mirena and the never-ending period. Is this normal?

I had the Mirena in after my daughter was built-in and had irregular spotting for well-nigh 4 years before I finally gave upwards and had it taken out. Very frustrating because I really shouldnt have more kids but I am not willing to make information technology perminent and struggle to have pills. Plus because I am in a wheelchair and not walking my gyn didnt want to requite me estrogen (the risk of blood clots is college when you are seditary) so I am on the mini-pill (POP) which means if I forget to take it (which I am bad nearly) I could go pregnant super easy. grrr.
But to reply your question, I did have a longer catamenia that first time after insertion then the spotting. Its not normal but not unheard of. If you are bleeding for more than then ii weeks you need to go see your doctor as it will make y'all anemic. My MIL had abiding bleeding (dissimilar cause) and was and then depression in iron when she finally got information technology checked they wanted to requite her a claret transfusion (she refused and spent a week in the hospital getting daily Iv iron)
